In 2000, after many years in carpet retail, I attended 50 hours of classroom study, and seven hours of question testing and came away with a certification in carpet inspection.
In 2001, I started training with the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). This organization presently sets the industry standards for inspections, cleaning, and restoration cleaning. Continuing education is mandatory in order to maintain membership in this organization.
